WHAT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES DOES HOMEAID HOUSTON OFFER?
HomeAid Houston has two unique opportunities to volunteer directly with our organization.
Annual Thanksgiving Basket Drive – In October and November, HomeAid Houston hosts a Thanksgiving Basket Drive to collect an assortment of Thanksgiving items and assemble holiday dinner baskets to donate to our agency partner(s). Items include $25 gift cards for turkey, boxed stuffing, instant mashed potatoes, fried onions, canned cranberry sauce, canned mushroom soup/corn/yams/green beans, canned or powdered gravy, foil turkey roaster pans, and non-perishable pumpkin spice flavored desserts. HomeAid Houston may also need volunteers to help sort, count, and assemble the baskets prior to delivery. The annual drive begins in October to ensure baskets are delivered by Thanksgiving.
In addition, HomeAid Houston connects volunteer groups with our agency partners to complete Engagement Projects or host Item Donation Drives, specifically benefitting the care provider. Volunteer groups may be companies, GHBA councils, community groups, friends/family, etc.
Engagement Project – From time to time, our agency partners need assistance completing small labor projects that can be completed by volunteers, skilled or unskilled, based on the project details. HomeAid Houston works with the agency partner and a volunteer group to plan an Outreach Project event, which are held at the agency’s facility. Projects may include minor repairs/cosmetic upgrades, painting, landscaping, sorting donations, cleaning, etc. Volunteer groups also have the opportunity to provide supplies for the project. Engagement Projects are scheduled as needed throughout the year.
Item Donation Drive – Occasionally, our agency partners need help restocking their shelves and replenishing their supplies. HomeAid Houston organizes community-wide drives or facilitates drives with specific groups or companies to collect the needed items, which may include food, toiletries, linens, books, clothing, cleaning/maintenance supplies, project materials, appliances, furniture, etc. Item Donation Drives are scheduled as needed throughout the year.
WHAT IS THE COST TO THE CARE PROVIDER?
Typically, there is no cost to the care provider. HomeAid Houston will coordinate volunteer groups to complete Engagement Projects or organize Item Donation Drives. For Engagement Projects, volunteers may purchase project supplies and materials or contribute financially to the purchase. Some agency partners provide or may already have supplies for the project.
