HomeAid Houston and Boys and Girls Country are excited to announce an upcoming housing project for Boys and Girls Country to help change the lives of children from families in crisis.
Having completed a third cottage for Boys and Girls Country in 2020, HomeAid Houston returns this summer to Hockley to construct a duplex with Builder Captains Clay and Heather Hudson of Trinity Signature Homes. The new duplex will provide housing for teaching parents and employees who relieve them when they take their respite. This project will free up bed space to meet the ever-increasing demand for housing at-risk, displaced children in our community.
The Hudsons shared their reasons for generously donating their expertise as Builder Captains.
“Being involved with Boys and Girls Country is a blessing to Heather and me. We believe firmly in the importance of family, education and Christian values,” Clay said. “Being able to help provide a home for children who may otherwise not have that is of utmost importance to us. At Boys and Girls Country, it is not just about having a place to live, but also the support, security and leadership that come along with being a part of a loving, functioning family. Not free from struggles but infused with the desire to work through them toward a positive and fruitful life.”
Boys and Girls Country provides a Christian home for children who come from families in crisis. The agency offers hope for families and their children in times of hardship, offering the children a reliable home and support. The Boys and Girls Country’s main campus is made up of a network of 11 cottages, housing up to eight children per cottage.
The children live with married “Teaching Parents” and any children they may have, as well as two single “Teaching Parents” who raise the children as their own. The campus can accommodate 88 children, ages 5 to 18. More than 90% of the children who come to Boys and Girls Country are from families living in poverty.
HomeAid Houston’s core construction programs facilitate the construction or renovation of homeless shelters utilizing the pro bono construction resources of members of the Greater Houston Builders Association and its trades to save homeless service providers from 45%-100% of construction costs. Since 2003, HomeAid Houston has completed 78 projects which house over 5,000 homeless men, women, and children annually.
