Many families in the community are struggling this year. With a focused mission to help people experiencing or at risk of homelessness build new lives through construction, community engagement, and education, HomeAid Houston, a charity of the Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA) joined their long-time tradition to deliver holiday joy through the GHBA’s Frank Aranza Adopt-A-Family Christmas Program early in December.
Adopt-A-Family partners the GHBA and its members with Houston Housing Authority each year to support those less fortunate in the community ensuring a bright holiday season for local families who may otherwise not have the means for a celebration. This year, 41 “adopted” families had their wish lists fulfilled and the GHBA collected over $16,000 in gift cards. When told that all families were already adopted for the program, Ken Williams with Colina Homes said, “This situation really says a lot about the GHBA and its members. Very, very, very generous and always providing strong community support.”
HomeAid Houston’s Executive Director Carole Brady was thrilled to don a Santa hat to deliver $16,000 in gift cards to five non-profit partner agencies who will each brighten the holidays in unique ways. Precinct2Gether will utilize their gift to purchase two monitors, enabling veterans to interactively meet with providers delivering medical and social services.
Additionally, children who lost a veteran parent will be taken shopping for holiday joy.
Gift cards for Family Promise of Lake Houston and Forgotten Angels will enable them to wrap up Christmas surprises for homeless children and families, and individuals with special needs. Jessica Penney, Executive Director of Family Promise of Lake Houston shared “Family Promise of Lake Houston will be able to provide a memorable Christmas experience for more than 50 homeless and at-risk family members this season due to the generosity and spirit of our community and HomeAid Houston coming together to make it happen.”
