HomeAid Houston, Abigail’s Place, Attack Poverty and Chesmar Homes are breaking ground Tuesday, July 26 on two 1,000 sq. ft. duplexes that will provide transitional living for mothers and their children in crisis situations. Abigail’s Place is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization serving displaced single mothers and their families in Fort Bend County by providing emergency housing support. Their mission is to empower displaced single mothers and their children who are facing circumstantial homelessness by providing transitional housing, resources, and advocacy. These circumstances can include the loss of a job, an illness, losing a family member who was the breadwinner, or fleeing domestic violence.
Attack Poverty works to empower people to attack poverty in their life and community by strengthening under-resourced communities through spiritual growth, education, revitalization and basic needs. The agency sold land to Abigail’s Place for the new construction and will assist in providing resources for the new families.
Chesmar Homes’s Jeff Johnson is leading construction on the project. “Teaming with Chesmar on this valuable addition to Abigail’s Place is a huge blessing for both the charities, the families it will serve and HomeAid Houston,” said HomeAid president, Nicole Jacob. “Chesmar’s commitment to giving back to the community reflects their generosity and the values they embrace within the organization. We are honored to break ground with them, and with so many others who understand the challenges many face on a daily basis.”
