Westin Homes Playship Takes Flight!

Westin Homes, the builder of the 2013 HomeAid Project Playhouse, is nearing their mission, to land their "playship" at Minute Maid Park, its final destination before docking in a lucky winner's backyard.

Westin has partnered with HomeAid Houston, the Houston Astros and the Astros Foundation to construct a playhouse for this seventh annual fundraiser that was inspired by the Astros new mascot, Orbit. Orbit is a lime-green outer-space creature wearing an Astros jersey with antennae extending into baseballs. It was originally the team's mascot from the 1990 through the 1999 seasons.

Project Playhouse raises funds to build transitional housing for Houston's homeless. Children and adults share in the excitement that Project Playhouse generates every year during baseball season.

This year's playship features space -themed amenities such as a cockpit complete with swivel seats, "rocket booster" - framed windows, a 32" wall mounted LCD TV, an X-Box, an MP3 player, an Ipod docking station with speakers, and interior detailing that will send a child's imagination to outer space. The playship also includes air conditioning and electricity.

The Westin Homes 'Orbiteers' team includes: Mike Carter, David Dorn, Jason Golan, Lana Herff, Brent Houser, Patrick Mayhan, Matt Roland, and Steve Venglar of Westin Homes and Sharon Geedman, Lauren Simpson, and Adam Steward of Baker One Design.

The playship will be on display during the Astros games beginning June 25th through July 4th on the concourse level behind Section 105. The winner of the playship will be announced on July 4th.

"The team at Westin Homes has tapped into their 'creative genius' to develop this amazing design," said Salty Thomason, Project Playhouse chairman. "The playhouse design and the professionals at Westin are also key factors contributing to the rate that sponsorships are coming in for Project Playhouse. These sponsorships send Project Playhouse soaring to new heights."

The playhouse is built with donated materials, labor and services by GHBA members.
